What I find amusing about this, is how the Brits try to talk trash about US public shootings and our gun laws.....then it still happens to them despite their ban.
It's more amusing that peoples most common counter is that it does not 100% eliminate gun violence when that in itself is near impossible and not at all what people are comparing to. People are comparing levels of gun related deaths and mocking the USA since I believe it has the highest gun related deaths of all the first world countries per 100,000 people (could be off here).
With that being said obviously there's also a mental health component and the USA is also not doing well in that department. Suicide by gun for every 100,000 people is also the highest of the first world countries I believe. I am not sure if those deaths would have been prevented or if they would have found another means to kill themselves but here in Canada there's been quite a few studies around impulse during suicidal episodes that show if the person does not have immediate access to firearms via proper storage or controls it reduces the likelihood of a impulse action and often prevents the death as in the gun is the fast way out and they wont take another alternative.
