That's the correlation, yes, but the causation is almost definitely the other way round: parents with higher socioeconomic status/education levels tend to find other ways than physical punishment for disciplining their brats. Receiving physical punishment during their childhood does not itself lower the IQ of children, it's rather that the offspring of low IQ parents has a higher chance of receiving an asswhooping when they misbehave.

Physical punishment is a poor vehicle for child-rearing and morality formation, and tends to be utilized by parents who are just unaware of, or resistant to, better methods.

If you parent effectively you shouldn't have to resort to corporeal punishment. Our parents got the point across forcefully without actually resorting to force.

I got spanked all of twice growing up. Only when I really messed up.

I think using it like that isn't something that should be outlawed, but is still sub-optimal.

I watch every Griffy video but hilarity aside its proven hitting kids is a shit way to raise them, far more people in prison were hit than not.

If your parents did their job correctly you'd be able to spell corporal properly. Perhaps they should have beaten you.
