Many cops in the US, unlike most of the rest of the western world, are ex-military.
Something like 1/5 cops in the US is ex-military. It's not hard to see why the police force is highly militarized here when that's exactly the type of people that are being pulled into the force, making it to roles of leadership and hiring.
I'm speculating here, but I wonder if there is any connection between being more violent or aggressive based on variables like did you serve as active duty or not? Personally, I don't think it's too of a farfetched question to ask.
I think it would be interesting to see the result of such a study, even though in reality it'd probably never be allowed to be administered because the results would tarnish military service and we know that the military would never let anything like that surface considering they need bodies to join.
