The minimum wage doesn't track to productivity, nor should it. Productivity gains in the last few decades have largely been driven by automation and technology. It has little to do with the supply/demand factors driving wage cost.

Raising the minimum wage to $24 / hr would represent a wage floor unheard of in both real terms and as a percentage of GDP per capita.

The American left needs to put more effort into developing intellectual talent. AOC is a complete embarrassment.

Wrong

Australia has 19.84 an hour and has a 55k GDP per capita compared to our 65k, which means theirs adjusted for GDP per capita is $23.5

Find some integrity

jacking up the minimum wage has a number of negative effects, including hurting small businesses and many poor people.

Understanding economics has nothing to do with white knighting for billionaires or 'starvation wages'

Banning everyone from working for less than a $24 minimum wage is particularly stupid and outlandish.

You are comparing an AUD$ minimum wage against a USD$ GDP per capita. You are also pretending that everyone in Australia under the age of 21 doesn't exist.

$24 is way too high. The government should be providing services that address poverty, not corporations.

In 1971 when Nixon closed the gold window, severing the last tie between the dollar and gold, the minimum wage was $1.60/hour and gold was $40.80/ounce, meaning that the minimum wage was worth 78 oz of gold per year. At today's prices, 78 oz of gold is worth ~$140,000, or $70/hour. Inflation is a lie.

If it wasn't for using numbers, my predictive text on my phone can type that whole spiel.
