When you're so good at being a scam artist that you scam yourself and enjoy it.

I definitely did not enjoy it. It's how I figured out I am not good at sales, at all.

I did Cutco for ~3 weeks, made a few hundred dollars, got a nice chef knife that I still have, and then got a normal job. My mother in law still uses the steak knives, and so I use them when I eat with the in-laws, and they're fine knives even after 10 years of use.

Actually I just realized I'm going to have a lot of extra money this year, so I might buy a nice set.

The one my friends tried to get me onboard with was sims vimo Viv energy drink. Obviously the product was shit a s you made money by getting more people below you who recruit more people etc. No ones actually buying the product, it could be shit in a bag. A real pyramid scheme.

That being said my buddy didn't convince enough people that he did eventually hit enough people below him that they gave him a Beemer to drive around in with logos plastered all over it.

I can still remember the day my friends inviting us over, he was so excited and I thought he was rolling out a real proposition only to quickly realize he got sucked into a scheme and I said i'm not joining.

They still had product on hand though which made for really shitty drink mix in university. But were poor so beggers can't be choosers.

Edit: Verve energy drink was its name https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2015/08/26/ftc-shuts-vemma-pyramid-scheme-that-used-college-kids/amp/

Back when I was in high school, the scam was Vector Knives Marketing.

They would offer "$13/hr" which was a lot for a 16 year old.

But it was just a pyramid scheme for you to buy their knives and attempt to make money by trying to sell those knives to other people door-to-door.

Word of mouth is the best way to stop these losers. Market churn will take care of them once they stop making money.

how is this a pyramid scheme? who works below you that you take a % off, that you setup to sell the same product with some % kick back.
damn kid.. no wonder

It's not a scam lol. It's not even a pyramid scheme. It's just a weird business model.

When I was in there was literally zero focus on recruiting. Everything was selling the knives. All of our training was on sales, we were expected to see a certain number of customers every week, etc. etc.

If you have rich friends it's a very high profit sales job. Once you get like $20k of sales you get like a 30% commission. If you have buyers who can buy, and are really good at sales, then you can make a lot of money at it.

But yeah, for most people they limp along, make a few hundred dollars, get a few free knives, and then quite for a more traditional job.

There is no wage. The scam was advertising it as a wage position with potential for commission.

You do get paid though. You can make $15 on a visit (in 2010 thats what it was). I got $300 one week because I did 20 visits and that came out to more than I would have made on commission, so I took the base rate.

Yeah it's scummy that they advertise an hourly rate when it's per visit you set up. That part is scummy.
