protip: xmas many families eat prime rib. after the holidays walmart clears stock and marks down the prime ribs 50% or so.

i bought 3 of them last week, all marked around 100$ each, all for 45$ each. then cut them into thick bone in rib eye steaks and vacuum sealed and froze them.

i now have enough steaks to eat steak whenever the fuck i want.

Now I just have to walk into the door of a WalMart...

Yeah, that's just not gonna happen. Fuck WalMart.

I'm a huge fan of Four Roses Small Batch bourbon. More than one article out there will say it's the best affordable bourbon on the market.

I just can't buy meat from Walmart anymore lol, even at half price. The quality just isn't the same as getting it fresh cut from a butcher and a bad quality steak just isn't worth eating anymore.

I'll check this out!

their normal meat is awful, luckily these are outsourced fully wrapped and nice quality.

edit: having been in the Cargill plant a few times (walmarts supplier) i would not suggest anyone buy their meats.

I just started buying bacon from my butcher as well. It's actually cheaper than their cheapest bacon and holy hell it's better than the most expensive bacon.

My hypoglycemia is getting worse so I've had to go almost full keto to avoid blood sugar crashes and finding a good butcher has made that process so much easier.

move to country, raise meat birds, kill meat birds, eat meat bird, freeze rest of meat birds, then eat meat birds.

for real tho, i did 100 cornish last year, only lost 3, and froze 90 birds. its been a real game changer. i wish i had a good butcher here, but overall i'd only really need pork. i raise my own birds, we buy a 1/3 cow annually locally, and i get a deer or two each year.

We're going to start looking to buy a house next year, so scouting starts this year. It takes ~45 minutes of driving on the highway before we can get far enough out of town to raise pigs and stuff, but I'd love to find a place that's a reasonable drive from work where I can raise some meat birds and maybe raise and butcher my own cow. Unfortunately places where that's viable are usually not the places that have science jobs.

If u have 1 acre u can raise meat birds, i live on .89 acres. they take almost zero space.

pigs, cows, etc tho ya that's a 5+ acre need even just for a few. cows especially tho are a really bad return on investment and an insane amount of work. i'd not suggest that. get a deer rifle and shoot a deer lol.

See the point of raising a cow for me would be to get some fancy feed to keep it over summer and slaughter before winter for custom fed steaks. I've heard you can really change the taste based on how you feed and care for it so I'd like to experiment with it every year with a new cow.

beef have very high mortality and injury rates for livestock. imagine putting a few grand into a cow in food then it dies from some gross disease and u have to toss it. if u have 100 cows or even 100k, this rate isnt an issue. if u have 1-3 cows, it can be an insane loss.

anyways, if u get to that point lmk, i might have advice. ill stop spamming the thread lol

edit: also beef is like 18-24 months birth to slaughter. chickens are 55 days.
