Maybe it's an advantage to let the procedure to timeout so republicans keep their Orange embarassement...
If Trump is barred from running again Republicans can reorganize and promote a new Trump, smarter one.

I think the procedure would then fail at senate or timeout. Not sure.

That is one scary thing about the last four years is most of the reasons why Trump has been caught at all is because he is an idiot that can't simply hide his tracks.

If there was a smart Trump the first time it would 100% be gg

hard to guess at anything right now
highly doubt he'll be removed via 25th
and impeachment seems pointless
that said, the alternative is doing nothing
which is the most unappealing option imo
if i had to guess
it would be another impeachment in the house
and "go away" from senate

I think the best thing for this country would be for Trump to resign. That way, it's under his own volition which would help calm things down. Mitch should get on the phone with Trump and say that they have the votes to remove him once they get the articles of impeachment.

I'm not a fan using the 25th amendment here because it helps fuel the "swamp" narrative (even though these people are approved by the Senate). Having people who are accountable to voters is very appropriate here.

removal with 2 weeks left seems like the most pointless thing Chuck and Nanci has dreamed up thusfar......

I mean, he's been the worst lame duck President that I know of. He made some unconscionable pardons, pushed conspiracy theories, and severely hampered the bureaucratic transition. Yes, from a practical matter, we'll probably survive another 2 weeks without incident. But man, we REALLY need to make an example out of this sort of behavior or it WILL happen again.

Former Chief of Staff John Kelly said if he was in the cabinet, he would vote to remove Trump via the 25th amendment.

Also, apparently if they went that route, even though Trump would contest it, Pence would remain president until Congress made a determination. So essentially it would run out the clock. But it won't happen of course.

Dems are more concerned with other things. They wont waste time with a lame duck. I mean the neo dems not the progressives. They are already calling for it but Pelosi wont go for it.

the swamp narrative has and will persisted enough that a future trump is unstoppable. he's laid the groundwork for a populist anti pc politician well enough there's bound to be an echo. im of the mind removal might make it worse.

The one thing impeachment would do that the 25th would not is, if Trump were actually removed from office by the Senate via impeachment proceedings, he would not be able to run for office again. The 25th Amendment doesn't provide for that, as it's a temporary transfer of authority, not a permanent one, and doesn't actually remove the President from office (13 days in Trump's term left notwithstanding).

The problem is that we have at least 4 acting Secretaries that I'm aware of (Justice, Defense, HS, and Transportation). Congress SHOULD be the ones voting. Why is it so hard to have this on your record? It's the easiest thing!

It depends what you mean by "future Trump." I'm not particularly concerned about a right-wing populist even though I strongly disagree with their stances. The issue is a terrific mixture of incompetence, demagoguery, and narcissism. We need WAY better checks and balances because norms have failed.

yeah agreed, he basically conceded today anyway

the swamping going to push him around one more time will NOT yield a good result

for the bolded scenario, the hope for the swamp is the populist president is more in the vein of reagan. of course they called him crazy and tried to drive him out then too
