oh they already blaming it on xmas shopping and people not wearing masks but yet only stores open around here have been walmart/costco...

Literally every store in my city is still open.

Wal-Mart was busier than I had ever seen it the week before Christmas. I tried to go in but nobody gave a single shit about social distancing so I walked out right after I walked in.

It's not exactly news that governments (outside of authoritarian police states like China) do not actually have the means to enforce compliance with anti-covid measures once the bulk of the people has had enough and no longer plays along out of their own volition.

In public health, patience/compliance is a valuable and limited resource. Unfortunately, most Western societies wasted it with tedious and alarmistic messaging/news coverage and clearly pointless rules (open casinos, close down churches; mask mandates in non-crowded outdoor settings, etc). It's really bad timing, since covid fatigue is starting to pick up pace at the exact moment when the pandemic reaches its climax and disciplined behavior would be most critical.

Rural, remote island far away from the main international travel routes, was lucky enough to not have significant undetected community spread when the scope of the pandemic became clear. By the time EU/NA realized that shit was about to hit the fan, it was already too late to pursue an eradication strategy like NZ/AUS. In retrospect, it's clear that we already had thousands of (mostly undetected) daily cases by the third week of February.

Eradication strategies are easy. Just ask people if they are conservative and then shoot them and shove the bodies into mass graves. Billions of lives can be saved by culling a few million worthless ones.
