Flipside: Trump refused the Presidential Salary save $1, and has operated on much lower travel/hotel costs for him and his detail and staff than either Bush or Obama. He's the self-anointed "good with money" guy. So, since he's going to be paying his team anyway, if he declines the detail, he can, as ^excellence pointed out, start up a running tally about what the greedy, self serving other Presidents are continuing to cost Taxpayers (not just the detail, but staffing, office, etc. plus their lifetime salaries).
