It's going to take years, possibly decades, to divest from China. Trump was a total fool to abandon the TPP because it would have allowed us to move businesses away from there. Trump's rhetoric, while a little strong, was definitely in the right direction. Tariffs, while sloppy, were a step in the right direction. I think the first step is to start classifying certain manufacturing sectors as critical to national security. Those need to either be here or in countries where we have long standing military alliances i.e. South Korea, NATO, etc.
I think we're at a crossroads. We either accept the necessity of globalism so that we can remain the king or we allow China to grow unabated. I definitely prefer the former given China's totalitarian tendencies. China has brought more people out of poverty than any other nation on the planet. Because of that, the people are going to turn a blind eye to any human rights abuses that the CCP performs. People all over the world are willing to look the other way as long as they benefit.
