3/10 for now, but certainly potential for more. the US, just like every other country, is obviously unique in its history and political system, but the similarities in methods and rhetoric (calling all critical media 'fake', a cabinet full of loyalists, jingoism, cult of personality, scapegoating of minorities, paramilitary forces loyal to only the leader...) are striking without a doubt.
as others have alluded to, trump fortunately does not have the intellect, conviction, organisation, or competence to become another hitler - but what he unquestionably achieved is to expose some of the critical flaws in the system, especially its lack of effective checks and balances. he certainly demonstrated that a smarter and more dedicated fascists will have a relatively easy path to absolute power if america doesn't make some major changes. all it takes is one of two parties to be too afraid (or too politically similar) to stand up to a blatant authoritarian (as perfectly demonstrated by the GOP these days), and the president becomes basically untouchable by the law or any other supposed check on his power.
only a complete fool would outright dismiss these warning signs, pretending that just because trump isn't literally hitler, everything was fine. hitler didn't start with concentration camps, he started by demonising socialists, minorities, and the press, and significant parts of the population joined him enthusiastically, all too eager to blame their economic hardship and lack of power on some minority.
don't be an appeaser. wehret den anfängen!
