An interesting read from a journalist on what editors say and what they mean.

Glenn was being asked to accept "context" where the reverse was clearly not true, and where his editors disagreed not with any of his facts but with his conclusions, which is obviously the entire point of investigative journalism.

Glenn is echoing the same complaints that he had during the Snowden case. Journalist uncritically regurgitate the opinions of the powers that be. The powers that be hate Trump, and that needs to be the party line.

If you behave like a good conservative, you will be lauded when useful (Romney, McCain) and otherwise maligned when not. Conservatives have been calling this out for decades, but it took Trump for it to come clearly out in the open. Instead of cloaking right immigration policies in leftist approved rhetoric, the penalty for which is to be called an undercover racist, he advocated for it in the open, and the result has been a war.

as always the biggest crux to people seeing these as a valid issue worth getting off of the couch for is that it takes Alex Jones, Milo, Trump, etc for them to see it, at which time they wont get off their couch in defense of Alex jones and Co.

its how the media gets away with it, their censorship is pervasive generally but subtle, and where it's hamfisted its targeting people no one will jump up to defend. and even if a groundswell formed, it just normalizes the slight orwellian behavior and signals that only severe cases are an actual problem.

as black xisten and i opined when the story first broke: just letting it run its course, heck even just saying it’s “fake news” and dismissing it would have the story out of the news cycle in the usual 24-48 hour span.

Biden campaign tries as hard as they can to go full dark mode on the story and no comment their way out of a 48 hour news cycle and Twitter jumps up to instead extend it out to a 3 week story due to banning anyone who even thinks of posting a link to a national newspaper.....

I don't know how Glenn's article could be called journalism of any kind. Glenn's not really a journalist who reports on things anymore... he's a media critic. That's really all he does these days.

Big corporations aren't truly that concerned about the election in an absolute sense. On some level, media stands to make more $ if trump is re elected. So it's a win win for them no matter what happens. Biden wins, they just have their puppet in the house, if Trump wins, they just get to cash in and do the same shit they did for the last 4 years of a 24/7 news cycle trump this trump that because trump plays the game too.

i’m sure it was along the lines of “hey you fellas have been on our payroll for a long time. the arrangement is for you to censor trump, not other journalists which may make us look bad”

oh 100%, i expect channels like CNN to be in dire straights if Trump leaves office, the layoffs will be insane. they'll "slim down to better fit into the internet era", according to them, but Trump was a can of gas that got them 100 miles deeper into the dessert that is dying TV cable media.



i'd say Biden is on twitters payroll, if anything. but i agree with lance above, theyre too big to care who's in office and know social media regulation isnt likely and will be ineffectual for a decade anyways.
