Trumps family wouldnt even wear masks to the first debate. They showed they don't care about safety and lost the trust of the people who run these things.

It could be done in person if Trumps side was rational and willing to follow basic safety

If that’s true then ban the families. You don’t really need them there

Debate still COULD happen safely in person, if proper measures were taken. Given America wants to see the debate I think these measures are worth it

exactly this, having no guests should have preceded a virtual option.

this seems more about wanting to control talking over each other than safety for covid tbh.

Honestly there is no reason why it can’t be done in person. Is the presidential debate director a physician or responding to physician advice? Put them 20 feet from each other and have them both wear masks. They both speak loud enough. We take care of covid patients everyday, inches away, and the patient doesn’t even wear a mask. Everything that fucking happens these days has to be politicized.

Even if you could make it pretty safe, putting the COVID positive president on a stage to debate is a bad look. It violates his administration's own guidelines.

I say let Trump not show up.

He made his bed now he has to lay in it. Hes the one who needs to make concessions here. He got covid, downplayed safety guidelines, his family refused to follow rules, and its his polling in the toilet.

If I was the president I would say ok I am violating abc guideline, and I am making up for it with xyz countermeasure. I understand this is against my administration’s formal guidance, however due to the desires of the American public to see a formal debate, I think this is an acceptable solution. I have discussed with my opponent who also agrees the countermeasures we have utilized are acceptable to mitigate risk

There was an in-person debate last night, this is an odd decision by the commission

Yeah I am not making excuses for any of this honestly. It’s quite obvious the policies they ignored resulted in unnecessary tax payer dollars being spent for healthcare that was not needed. If you don’t have a 100% sensitive test then you are bound to fail at some point with the strategies he was using. Definitely poetic justice

But I still think debate commission should have found a middle ground here before jumping to virtual. Then it would have been on trump to ignore the middle ground

If it was the first debate I'd probably agree, but given the shitshow that was, I don't think there's a substantial public interest in having it in person. Plus Biden catching COVID is one of the only ways he could lose this race.

Two in person debates and one online is sufficient, imo.

Harris and Pence haven't been hospitalized for COVID.

Oh I am dumb, I didn’t realize there was another debate still even after this one

Yeah then I care less.

Logically I still think a middle ground should have been sought before jumping to virtual, but agree it doesn’t matter too much.

trump is afraid of the mic muting, and using virtual as an excuse.

more pandering to his "this is just a flu" bloc.

one of which, my coworker who must have said "flu" 1,000 times this year in various downplaying phrases, died yesterday of Covid. refused an ambulance because he said he was getting better and about to kick it. died several hours later.

They are pretty hard to convince, herman cain is STILL tweeting about how its just a flu and he died from it weeks ago.
