Wouldn't call it a supply chain issue.

The issue, at the heart of it is American labor is more expensive than foreign labor. So a lot of these tech corporations would want to be able to hire foreign labor that have better work ethic and are cheaper. I worked for a large corporate bank, we had tons of IT teams in India.

We've talked about how wages have been stagnant for a long time, they are becoming increasingly so even in professional industries. I'm finishing up my MBA and every single informational call I join for a potential target company to work for it's like 3/4 Indian students that need H1B visas and will take a low salary just to get that visa. That pushes out qualified candidates because obviously they aren't going to take some 3/4 of a salary. I remember going to one of these presentations and the recruiter said they don't offer visas and like 3/4 of the classroom got up and left rudely half way through the guys sentence.

If you have 10 qualified Americans applying for a job and the minimum expected salary is 70k and then you have 10 others who are from India or China who will take some bare bones 50k salary just to get the visa, you don't think that's problematic?

Issue is that our labor force participation rate is already plummeting. Don't tell people to learn to code, and then offshore the IT to department to India anyways, and when you can't offshore those jobs bring that cheap labor here.

I hear what you are saying loud and clear. Believe it or not similar thing occurs with healthcare. these fucks will take any job and then corporate healthcare normalizes these salaries.

I specifically said certain sectors, while not intending to argue against the primary thesis because I largely do agree, but like battery engineers for example. I have a buddy who’s entire team is Chinese because there are no American battery engineers as qualified. He works for GM and says his company actively trying to find recruits and just can’t find them

Honestly hilarious

This is what u get for directing American tax dollars into corporate bonds. Could do the ultimate fuck all and sell the bonds instead of letting them mature.

To be fair I think there is a supply chain problem with certain fields

How did we ever get to the point where the market prefers a biden victory

The simulation is having a lot of glitches

Most people in big tech are educated, which means they tend to vote democrat. There are conservative culture warriors there too though. Both sides are giving 6x more than they did last election.

We have enough domestic engineers, they just work for MIC firms because the salary and benefits are WAYY better than at regular tech firms. Also, way less competition with foreigners due to security clearances and the effort it takes to vet and get one.

EE on the power grid was concerning a few years back...

Watch China snatch them up and gain huge market advantage.

Sell them at a premium and then seize them through eminent domain.

80% of news revenue comes from big pharma advertisements. Id argue 60% of their investors are chinese as well. They both want america to fail.

its funny how it shifts from "we dont want more welfare cases" to "we dont want better qualified engineers, we want worse qualified americans".

its almost like, and stick with me here, the wall will never come so Trump needs a new enemy to make people forget the wall.

china wants its biggest customer who owes them a lot of money to go bankrupt, stop buying things, and default on debts?

that makes total sense bro....

I can see why they flock to the US, engineering gets paid way better. For me I'd likely get worse benefits in the US. But atm as an electrical engineer with ~4 years of experience I make about 4.5k a month gross. Engineering gets way underpaid in the Netherlands compared to abroad. If only I didn't want to live here, haha.

electrical engineers in my company make about 5k-6k/month US at my company. so 60-72k gross yearly or so. with bad benefits. but u could rent a decent country house on an acre for 1k/month, and food and utilities are cheap. but awful benefits.

but we also have nearly unlimited overtime and hourly pay. so that top end could hit 6 figures if u want to work. pre baby i was working 60-70 hrs per week and making 1.5x my base pay or more.

This ties in to what I've repeatedly been saying here on PaRD about the comparison U.S./EU: those with an income above the ~80% quantile are better off in the U.S., everyone else is better off in Europe.

4.5k euros gross sounds like a fair entry level wage for an electrical engineer, but way too low for someone with 4 years of experience. Perhaps you could improve your wage with a move to a different company?
