ever since the announcement of two simultaneous and independent malignancies being found in her lungs and removed, it was clear she was in the late stages of her pancreatic cancer turning metastatic
but we really had no idea how far that had progressed, or how long she had. The prognosis was usually about a year life expectancy with < 3% 5-year rate for her age, and that was about 20 months ago so she beat the odds, though I guess you have to factor in the increased vigilance in detection for her high profile catching it earlier so I'd take actuarial numbers with a grain of salt.
at any rate, sad news, she was the most respected and accomplished champion for her cause, and her death is basically the end of the 2nd wave of feminism
