Wait. Do you just get stimulus cheques even if you didn't lose your job as a direct result of the virus?

If that is the case wouldn't or shouldn't it get clawed back if you make above a median level of income?

I don't give much attention to the USA's stim plan.

Everybody will get stimulus, likely as long as you make less than 75k/year like last time.

Then if you lost your job you get more money from the increased unemployment benefits. The current Dem plan is to extend the additional $600/week, and the Republican plan is to extend it at $200/week.

The stimulus is just that, a stimulus. They want you to spend and boost the economy because there's super low activity right now.

The unemployment is so people can keep paying rent and utilities and we don't end up in a homeless crisis.

Grant businesses, hospitals, churches, etc. protection from liability for covid infections

Republicans and Republican run businesses, hospitals, and Churches say "don't wear a mask, go crowd into churches and sing loudly and proudly, spittle flying, go sit down in Fuddruckers and demand they serve you and spit in their faces if they won't, use your Second Amendment to get a haircut, be a brave patriot! The virus is a Democrat hoax! Wuhan flu is a plot for Bill Gates to implement the NWO via 5G microchips and Soros BLMs!"

And then they turn around and say "laugh, you fell for it. Can't sue us, bitch! It's just a prank, bro!"

Okay, so there is a threshold that makes you ineligible at least...

Peoples stim cheques appear to be going into Robinhood.

military payout is odd, as well as farmer stimulus.
farming especially, given that it's never shut down and social distancing is easily done so they dont require many changes. that and in a food shortage futures on all crops/livestock was already up.
stim check, meh, ok ill take it.
as to liability, i dont like that morally, but legally it would be a nightmare for courts to settle as many disputes as people would raise. only people who win there are the lawyers, as not many cases would win.
overall tho, just another band aid fix with a not so bright future with regards to cases. all heading into election time.
never did i think i'd see the day when a president would end around the CDC, whether you think this is foul play by POTUS or the CDC doesn't matter. we're in some bleak times.

I believe military is so they can spend to increase safety on the bases.

I don't understand farms either.

Liability cases would all get thrown out unless there's gross negligence on the part of the employer, so I don't necessarily think it's gonna be an issue going forward. Most will not get filed and the ones that do will likely get thrown out as frivolous before getting close to trial. My mother's work was going to try to make them pay 1$/day for masks after getting a 100k loan from the first stimulus. That shit got shut down real fast when she called the owner and said she would be consulting with a lawyer.

I don't think this stimulus will do much for the economy. I think any stimulus should include student loan deferment since that's basically a cost-free way to increase economic activity. Yes, I do personally benefit from it, but still.

You probably shouldn't get any, if I recall your salary is 125K per year.

Any high income earner is not likely to further stimulate the economy using additional federal funds. You already have sufficient funds budgeted for the year more than likely and would not step outside of that due to a small stimulus boost.

What a miserable system and precedent.

In Canada for instance if you become unemployed as a result of being laid off (cannot be dismissal for misconduct) you are eligible for employment benefits if you meet certain criteria like you have worked 400 hours in the year. If you make above a threshold set every year by the Canadian Gov't any EI above that amount will be clawed back on your income tax return so there is no benefit to applying unless its purely for cash flow timing since its all getting paid back. I believe that threshold is around 63K of taxable income this year (EI is included in taxable income). If that didn't exist it would be easily exploitable by those who don't need it and seasonal workers who would just claim they were laid off for the season and they could claim EI for the rest of the year.

Our CERB benefit which is our COVID-19 benefit is limited to those who have been dismissed or lost the majority of their income as a direct result of COVID-19. Specifically if you lost your job or make less than $1,000 in a four week period as a result of COVID. If you earn more than $1,000 in a four week period you are not eligible for CERB.

I, someone who makes 4x the average Canadian earnings would never expect to be given any type of benefit. It would be abusive to our system. I have one group of individuals who are all high earners that I frequently toss ideas around with, not one person has ever complained.

Its amazing the society differences based on precedents we set. The contrast of attitudes between American high earners , if what you say is reflective of the average high earner, and the attitudes of a Canadian high earner.

My wife and I got checks before and we weren't hurting. We bought a new house that is requiring a lot of work so it paid for a trench to be dug, lines laid, and a new powerbox by the pool. We also got a tax return this year, finished paying off the 2017 tax bill.

Trump has put a lot of money in my pocket between taxes and stimulus. I can see why wealthy people vote Republican, because if this scales, oh boy.

But i know the economy is in the shitter. The number one real indicator of how the economy is doing is the age of people you see doing unskilled services and fast food jobs, and they're old AF.

even if cases get thrown out it still clogs the system, judges still need to look on a case by case basis for that process to happen. and lawyers nationwide wont fail to file, they want money.

agree 100% on studen loan deferment, and you'd be even better to put in some program to defer mortgage payments and car loans. such as filing for deferment but interest added to the back end. i too benefit from it. i've jumped up like 10k$ just from that in covid.

Just because you don’t live in mommas basement doesn’t invalidate that first part lol.

And I’m glad some of the unemployment benefits will be reduced. I know a ton of people who don’t want to go back to work because they’re making more on unemployment. That doesn’t spur the economy that’s actually extremely damaging. I honestly see more hiring signs now than at anytime pre COVID.
