Nothing has changed in 2020. Where I live nothing is different. The gym was closed for a bit and forced me to workout in my garage. My office is closed to the public but given we are investment management and business development there's almost no walk-ins anyways.

I have had to rearrange vacation and because had less vacations this year I had more than enough disposable income to pick up a skidoo and two atvs while still meeting annuals savings targets. First world problems all around.

No booze, no weed or other recreational substances just a ton of tenting in the middle of no where and fishing. I'll just slog 7 hours in a direction and hope I can remember how to get back. Take the inreach + and off you go.

Better than nothing; here's hoping you get something out of it!

Thanks. And may you avoid weed-induced paranoia forever!

Killing it.

We went to Yellowstone on our trip, it was May 31st when we got there and the lady tells us the park is "closed until tomorrow". It was pretty funny, finally got around to getting there and the fucking thing was on the last day of being closed.

Spent a little time after that outside of the Sierras, which was gorgeous. Found out they aren't issuing permits to climb Mount Whitney at all this year which fucking sucks because I'd love and try to climb that bitch this year if possible.

Need to get the eating part under control when I smoke and I'll be golden.

I love alcohol too, but I know how to exercise restraint when it comes to it. I've worked in bars for a long time so I've seen first hand the destruction it can wreak on people. Luckily I haven't had to deal with it personally in my family life, and I pity those that do.

And that's awesome. I pretty much use this forum to write so I feel less dumb. My girlfriend and I started a notebook where we chronicle travels, little souvenirs, etc. It's amazing how inept you feel when you physically try and write something after pretty much making the transition to digital writing.

Never played it. I heard it plays a lot like Magic, so I imagine I might enjoy it.

well, i used to drink quite a lot (way too much honestly) as a member of a fraternity, but that was still what i call 'social' drinking, and i often didn't even really enjoy it (was very cheap and rather disgusting beer too). these days it can easily happen that i don't have a drop of alcohol for literally months, and i don't think i've ever had a drink alone in my whole life.
that said, i still have a pretty good idea of how devastating years of alcohol abuse can be, because a neighbour of ours, when i was a kid, was an alcoholic. they had daughters roughly my age, and yeah... let's say it wasn't pretty what happened in that house. alcohol can easily destroy whole families and lives, i wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.

concerning the writing, i feel ya. my handwritten drafts are a complete mess, i have no idea how i was able to write multiple page essays in school that were reasonably structured and presentable. obviously different standards, but still.

I hope to one day hike through the Sierras, unfortunetly they have gained a bit of popularity since that hiking movie about the PCT. I think I might end up trying the cdt in the future or the trail across New Zealand. The expense is not the hike itself, its the opperuntity cost of taking off that much time.

Some people just can't handle alcohol. I'm lucky enough to be one of those who can in that I can have a drink and not need to get totally drunk, but I've worked with and seen people who are all or nothing drunks and it's sad. I have yet to hear of a household destroyed by weed.

It's crazy, yeah, but it's like everything else, just write more and more and hopefully you'll see improvement in quality and content.

What movie? I'm quite interested.

My brother and I did a peak out there that was far less than Mount Whitney but still a good climb, I want to say 12,500 feet up? Those dudes who are serious about the hiking are crazy, there we were in all our shit and some dude ran by us barefoot. I respect that lifestyle, for sure.

Obsession probably knows multiple tiers, you are in the beginning tier I only imagine ends with you messaging me asking for pictures of my feet or wanting me to mail you used underwear.

I'd say about a month before the message.

It's called Wild I believe. I can't recall it well but someone basically soul searching and using a hike to redefine their life. Something along those lines. Pretty sure it's based off a novel someone wrote which reflects real life events or semi reflects them anyway.
