I love alcohol too, but I know how to exercise restraint when it comes to it. I've worked in bars for a long time so I've seen first hand the destruction it can wreak on people. Luckily I haven't had to deal with it personally in my family life, and I pity those that do.
And that's awesome. I pretty much use this forum to write so I feel less dumb. My girlfriend and I started a notebook where we chronicle travels, little souvenirs, etc. It's amazing how inept you feel when you physically try and write something after pretty much making the transition to digital writing.
Never played it. I heard it plays a lot like Magic, so I imagine I might enjoy it.
well, i used to drink quite a lot (way too much honestly) as a member of a fraternity, but that was still what i call 'social' drinking, and i often didn't even really enjoy it (was very cheap and rather disgusting beer too). these days it can easily happen that i don't have a drop of alcohol for literally months, and i don't think i've ever had a drink alone in my whole life.
that said, i still have a pretty good idea of how devastating years of alcohol abuse can be, because a neighbour of ours, when i was a kid, was an alcoholic. they had daughters roughly my age, and yeah... let's say it wasn't pretty what happened in that house. alcohol can easily destroy whole families and lives, i wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy.
concerning the writing, i feel ya. my handwritten drafts are a complete mess, i have no idea how i was able to write multiple page essays in school that were reasonably structured and presentable. obviously different standards, but still.
