I mean, if you've been mutilated as a child, and you've dealt with infections and strange crusty issues for the first 5-10 years of your life, all due to pieces of you being cut off, then I don't understand why anyone would make light of it.

do we have any statistics on how prevalent such surgeries on minors were in the uk, what age they were performed at, and what percentage of them regret those surgeries simply because they 'changed their mind' regarding their gender later?

i mean, i'm sure at the core of this legislative initiative are well meaning intentions, but i severely doubt there was a massive surge of 12 year olds undergoing this life-changing and incredibly painful procedure for fashion reasons, regretting it down the road since it was just a fad, like some right wing fundamentalists keep suggesting.
