this happens for 2 reasons, good ol boys over charging for a walk, and liberals demanding higher charges and then they walk. it comes from all sides. remember Freddie Gray?
the "10-30 years isn't enough for murder, my cousin ray ray got life for 3 strikes on selling loosies on the corner" mentality needs to stop.
tbh 5 years is enough, 1 year, etc. because it guarantees that cop never serves on any force ever again. the bar should be lowered to "get this cop off the force" and higher penalties should be a bonus.
One conviction would be enough at any point. As of now it seems like a cop has to be a POC or a women to get charged with anything. If that white woman who went into that man's apartment and shot him was a white dude that trial would have been different, and it is unlikely anyone would be in jail. The marijuana smell in the apartment would have been hung onto to prove this guy was a violent criminal anyway and his life isn't worthy of living.
Like this guy, he shoplifted in high school and now he is a dangerous criminal. They said he was breaking into a house, in a neighborhood which had no reported burglaries in months. Police told his mom he was killed by a homeowner for invading a home.
Its gross.
These guys will walk, no time served.

Five years would be enough. The state won't admit that anything bad has happened. One more thing for them to celebrate on James Earl Ray day.
