I think its both deplatforming and the related cancel culture. it's not just that taking them off of platforms loses them an audience, it's how cancel culture works. if u can label someone a racist or w/e you will trim off part of their audience naturally that is perhaps centrist or left leaning. then as cancel culture goes into full effect they dig up anything and everything about them which trims off more and more layers of followers. "you heard they said this, but did you know in 2005 they also said THIS?" kind of thing. deplatforming is the official mechanism, but cancel culture also has a major affect using hindsight amplification and pile on tactics.

Cancel culture is more or less avoiding shitty things. People don't cancel great things or things are add value.

Milo objectively offers no value and it makes sense that his career will peter out because being a token inheritly has limited lifespan in usefulness.

Racism is a deviance anyway and normal people and abhorred by it now when they encounter it. Right wing people are just so politically active lol.

i find it a bit humorous that youtube edgelord comedians are somehow the new enemy that must be stopped. how fucking comfortable of lives we all live that an idiot who says nigger on youtube because he wants to get clicks is the new Hitler that the world must take action to stop before he conquers the globe with an army of suburbanite white kids behind him.

How about treating far left activist exactly the same way. Serve those pricks some of their own medicine.

They would be treated that way if they were calling for genocide, mass extermination and promoting white replacement conspiracy theories.

I'm not doing anything to stop him, nobody cares about him. People like him cancel themselves in their desperation for attention.

Only thing Ive done to stop milo is call him and his fans turds on a forum.

This has happened all throughout history. It used to be "I bet that loose woman is a witch", now its "he said shitty things on YouTube.", and in the future it will be other things that will be called frivilous. Society constantly seeks to punish so it can inform its members of where the boundaries of acceptability is. And if tomorrow we woke up and everybody followed the guidelines to the letter the guidelines would be tightened, and if too many people break the rules the guidelines will be loosened.

#socialstratification

Productive citizens are treated better than racist and drug addicts. Its a functional thing.

two different concepts I think
cancel culture is attempting to weaponize societal pressures to destroy someone, which just utilizes the same forces of judgmental society and reputation to attack people
deplatforming is a systemic form of censorship by technology, attacking the very ability to express yourself and trying to destroy the speech itself

cancel culture might try to threaten people into submission, but they're still free to speak their minds if they accept the closed doors. Deplatforming meanwhile tries to cut out their tongues to stop them from talking in the first place

Cancel culture just reflect on how moronic our society is and that we're no more civilized and enlightened than any previous generation. Like Thor said, its not really anything new, people have done it since the printing press. Now they've just accelerating it and have a wider lens to focus on one person at a time in rapid fire fashion, but its still the same mechanics. Deplatforming however is a direct assault on our liberties and trying to set precedents that will be used to erode the safeguards our nation was built upon.

you may have not done anything but twitter, youtube, facebook, etc platforms all banned him. and milo getting banned for "bullying" leslie jones was laughable. he deserved to be cancelled for endorsing underaged grooming in the gay community, but that only surfaced after he went mainstream via supposed bullying.

i hate milo but how that all shook down was a bit of a joke.

i agree with the assessment that it's not new, but also would add that via socialmedia/internet its amplified in effect and speed. also given our ever creeping crawl towards a soft and kushy life the nature by which you can be cancelled grows ever more frivolous.

I have libertarian leanings so i believe people can ban who they want on their stuff for their own interests. Milo can be banned for bullying but the President can't so it isn't like it is a real functional limitation. If Milo was more famous or offered more or was better he wouldn't be banned.

The most official form of deplatforming is hate speech law. Where do you stand on hate speech where it is a thing?
