so catch me up, if im reading this right West Virginia is trying to coax voters in Virginian border counties to vote to make their county a part of WV rather than VA, correct?

honestly, i think if you put like a 20 year cool-down on such moves it honestly wouldn't be that bad. large states that dont do well for their citizens would slowly shrink until they get to a more manageable size of rural area surrounded by their capital hubs of industry. and the states that take on such counties would find themselves fairly overburdened. until we eventually reach equilibrium. maybe we could even make Illinois just equal Chicago and surrounding areas by border states eating up counties.

Apparently, some Virginians aren't to happy with recent gun laws passed by a now Democratic State legislature, among other things.
This caused WV to pass a law that allows any counties seceding from VA to become part of WV. Seems there's quite a few upset Virginians.



/e And as Goom pointed out, right before the Civil War, Virginia and WV were all one state. The southern sympathizers, became Virginia, and the northern sympathizers became WV.

yeah we did a lot of crazy shit back then, like allow people to be property in only half of the states for decades before it eventually led to a civil war.

i dont think this law would pass SCOTUS scrutiny, it goes around ratification by the states. and directly puts congressional representation in a chaotic position. and really its just fuel for the "GOP can't win without gerrymandering" narrative.

This isn't about leaving the union. This is about counties leaving Virginia for West Virginia, like has already happened once.

do you support the idea of states swapping counties? i can for sure find a libertarian free market of counties perspective im not unhappy with in theory, i just think in practice it would be chaotic.
