at least the senators are elected reps, if this process took place in certain other nearby countries, the vote to convict would be held by appointees

I wouldn't rule out trump being voted out in the senate, never underestimate the treachery of politics, if they can get the votes and benefit from trump not being president they will do it.

When Clinton was being impeached he at least showed remorse for lying under oath and disappointing the American people. This guy has no remorse at all for what he has done.
