The SoundCloud audio in that link is in Spanish, but purports to link Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Bob Menendez to the opposition. Anyone fluent in Spanish that can provide insight or corroboration?


The problem is that American leaders and diplomats communicating with the opposition isn't itself evidence of a CIA backed coup. It's not abnormal for diplomats to try to understand what's happening in the country, and even if they were made aware of plans to oust Morales, that isn't evidence of a CIA backed coup either.

Never said it was. Which is also why I'd like someone fluent in Spanish to chime in.

This is usually how these theories play out though. Victoria Nuland was intercepted talking to the opposition in Ukraine(not an abnormal thing for a diplomat to do), the Russians leaked it, and everybody who hates US foreign policy now gets to pretend the uprising was a CIA backed coup.

True, but it's not like the US doesn't have a history of sending the CIA to back South American coups or anything. I'm not jumping to that conclusion. But the chances of CIA involvement are greater than zero right now.

Term limits are not retroactive. We just had Jerry Brown serve two more terms here after he served before term limits were put in place. It’s not unusual. And Angela Merkel has been in office longer than Morales was. I don’t hear anyone justifying a military coup against her.


This happened because Morales refused a lithium export deal. It’s cut and dry. Bolivia is a socialist success story and the capitalists wanted the resources for themselves, so they are manufacturing consent in the west. If you don’t believe it was a coup, it’s because you’ve been brainwashed.
