I found this line particularly hilarious

"The total tax revenue for Colorado was $13,327,123,798, making marijuana only 1.18% of the state's total tax revenue"

They are trying to say that single product making up 1% of the state budget means it's not generating enough revenue LOL

There's definitely negatives to marijuana legalization, but they are worth the cost when you consider hard drug use went way down, incarceration and enforcing costs are astronomical, etc.

I find it pretty dumb that there's a "legal" way to get it and an "illegal" way to get it. If I want to grow and dry tobacco on my own property I can, why should marijuana be any different if it's otherwise legal?

Im a little surprised you find taxes dumb tbh.

The only reason illegal weed is illegal is because the government didn’t get its take on it.

People who come into the store I work at before it closes sometimes coming in smelling so hard of weed. Basically like they just hot boxed in their car and then come in to buy chips or oreos usually lol.

The smell of weed is the worse yeah.

Last week, Senator Cory Booker introduced the Marijuana Justice Act in an effort to legalize marijuana across the nation and penalize local communities that want nothing to do with this dangerous drug. This is the furthest reaching marijuana legalization effort to date and marks another sad moment in our nation’s embrace of a drug that will have generational consequences.

tf..?

Not sure if this is the authors sky is falling bleeding in or Booker really wants this?

Communities should be able to decide for themselves. I think decriminalization is needed across the land but if certain communities want to prevent a legal weed market setting up shop that should be okay and they shouldn't be penalized. I can just imagine a community that's 80% Mormon not wanting a weed shop in their town and big gov't doing something to penalize them.
