The feel/experience is something you were socialized into. They might have a niche for the super wealthy, but at a certain point they're going to go out of style just like everything else. "Your car is so bumpy, why doesn't it run smooth like mine?"
Fossil fuel cars will only go out fo style if electric cars solve their huge technological hurdles, particularly the limited range, the long recharge times and the vulnerability of the battery to very low or high temperatures. Particularly in sub 0° C/32°F environments, the range of EVs suffers enormously!
Furthermore, EVs are only good for the climate if they are charged with renewable energy. Charging them with power from coal does fuckall for the environment.
So in my opinion, the future rather looks like a mix of electric and fossil cars. Electric cars in big urban areas where distances are typically short and within the range of one battery charge, and in smaller delivery cars which run a plannable distance per day.
Diesel for big trucks and gas motors for people living in more rural regions or far in the north.
In general, the farther south you are, the more available cheap and clean solar energy will be, and the less risk of seeing your range go down the shitter during winter.
