no, that's just flawed 'logic' on your part.
higher monetary compensation does not necessarily imply a higher regard concerning the 'value' of your profession. i'm pretty sure that a majority of people in your society would actually agree with you about a doctor's work being 'more valuable' than that of an athlete.
obviously that's simply not how markets works. high profile athletes earn more because corporations can generate more profit from their profession.
society (you included) will understandably rather watch a basketball match on television, interrupted by countless commercial breaks, than a live stream of a doctor examining patients and prescribing flu meds, but that doesn't mean the doctor's work is less important in their eyes.
