No, listening and reading only puts the other side in your perspective. The only way you can really think through the other side is through conversation, debate, or argument. While you are thinking of ways to counter what they are saying you will have to attempt to think of things from their perspective to understand their position so you can calculate how to counter it.

Learning isnt about countering or arguing. Learning isnt adversarial. You are taking a very toxic approach to learning and I genuinely hope you dont try to pass that to your students.

You are very silly if you think this is true. Of course that isn't the only part to learning, but it is definitely what we call a HLTP, or a high leverage teaching practice. Go ahead and spout your bullshit while there's thousands of teachers/professors who are more knowledgeable in this field than you say it is one of the best ways to learn.
