But he clearly both consciously weaponizes his feigned gender identity to attack people and loudly proclaims himself a champion of LGBT rights, so there's a good guess that the whole things just an act.

The trans community is able to identify what a liability he is and that they need to distance themselves as far as possible, but they're not quite willing to acknowledge that he's a man exploiting their gender identity nonsense. So they're still left in this awkward position where they want to attack anyone who misgenders him and instead ends the article by saying the real people who they need to take down isn't the raging pedophile but instead the conservative media that "who prey on transgender women with their alarmist fairy tales that made this incident undetectable from a dominantly hateful narrative"

I dunno if she's pretending to be trans. I am not comfortable with saying someone isn't trans if that's how they identify. She could be an awful person and still be trans.
