I would most definitely say yes. 3000 people lost their lives in one day through human agency during peace. It was carried out in a city that stands as a strong symbol of the USA in the rest of the world, and it had a long lasting effect on how the Western world views Islam and the Middle East.

I think the only thing that compares would have been either Pearl Harbor or Black Tuesday among people still alive in terms of significant life events.

In the course of humanity and human history, the moon landing and sputnik are going to be more important for our descendants.

well when you control for the Kurds / political prisoners Saddam killed its a bit closer to even. Still no one's in favor of the Iraq war, even the right wing neocons around here aren't in favor of the Iraq war...

9/11 was bad, the Iraq war was bad, the Afghani invasion was bad, Libya was bad, Syria was and is bad. Just in case you need a short reference list of other things moderate american's aren't in favor of.
