Honestly idk why people say Christ suffered all that much. Plenty of people died in much worse ways back then... it's not like his suffering was uncommonly great. Hell he even took only 3 days to die. That spear to the side was practically a mercy killing.

Well i'd say it'still pretty uncomfortable. At any rate, i think crucifixion is more theatrical and dramatic. To be displayed while slowly dying with nobody doing anything about it surely would have it's effect on viewers. It's still pretty damn painful.
