...politics is an art form that takes decades to develop...getting rid of politicians who have finally mastered the art is foolhardy . The most intelligent people I know are my age and above .

Nah, each congressman has a group of staffers who have law degrees in order help craft legislation. The good staffers end up having really solid careers as lobbyists, judges, etc.

and then there is reality

the lobbyists always win and get their way

all it takes is bribes, or as they call them here, contributions

Yes I agree with an upper age limit. We have dinosaurs determining the future of internet policy when an average 13 year old is more knowledgeable about how the internet works. There is a lower age restriction and I see no problem with amending in an upper age restriction. I believe 60 should suffice, this would also solve the problem of life long politicians. 2 birds with one stone.

Old dinosaurs know how everthing else works, but yes, too young or too old isnt right...
In France there is a serious problem about it... But i dont see any good solution

- "senility" test => can be faked/corrupted/various bad issues
- maximum aging => some ppl are pretty good at 80 unlike some others, thats unfair

btw if laws are half crap/bad because half of the power is in hands of giant corps thats another subject

The reality is that while lobbyists help write a lot of bills, they aren't the only ones doing it.

You two are both right, the lobbyists tell the congressmen what would be best and the congressman's staff of Aides who are stellar lawyers write the bills up so they seem innocent and actually in the best interst of the people that the congressman serves (the ones who vote for him)

Imho I think age limits would be wrong, but I do think we need to look at term limits more closely

I dont like age limits on either side.
An older person can be much better than a younger person, and vice versa.
It depends on the person, not necessarily their age.

The will of the voter is all that really matters. If people want to vote someone in until he croaks, let them.

I'm more interested in strict term limits. 2 terms. That's it. No lifelong politicians.

...which will only add more time to the election seasons not to mention more money ...limiting House members to a pair of 2 year terms will also mean that less gets done than even in today's hostile climate .
