in china the common practice is for when a child misbehaves to pin him down against a wall and use your body as a restraint until he calms down

there are very few reasons to hit a child, and disobedience isn't one of them

So the past few millinea where its been common practice to punish your children has all been wrong? Society has somehow progressed even with folks who may have taken a swat or two for their actions. I think within reason, it should be fine for a parent to punish their child with a spanking.

it's just not true, tho.. it's not more traumatizing.. in fact, i imagine it would be a bonding experience
the child calms down and understands that emotional outbursts will be met with a mutual time out

i think it's crazy to say that being pinned is as bad as being beat, but maybe your dad didn't beat you like mine did

Personally i would never hit a child - that said - I've seen problem children on shows like the super nanny
and the problem is never the kids - its always the parents who don't understand the idea of disciple without hurt and wanna be nice to their kids and children see that as weakness and take advantage of this.

There no reason to ever hit a child - its always with the weak parenting skill of the parent and a firm hand is no substitute for a firm mind.

on a side note : In western society - most parents have had 13 years of learning crap that is 97% useless information - Isnt it weird that the skills they really need the most - are the skills they never spent any time learning?
