...To be honest, mathematical and scientific skills are overrated. ...

let me guess, you probably think as well that learning latin is a waste because it does not have immediate application, but eg see

It represents a change in relative strength of the U.S., which I think is what the OP wants an opinion on.

and that within the oecd countries, take note that china, india, russia for example are not included

Aus is doing fine.

not really sure, ranking 14th out of 24 in the measured numeracy stakes is nothing to be proud about

I'm relatively happy with our results :)

U.S. just needs to get rid of for-profit education and grade inflation. Schools should not be paid by how many people graduate, but by how many people of that school enroll/finish higher education.

On the whole science classes: It would be nice if there were special classes for rationality/scientific methodology/critical thinking. But a good teacher will already incorporate that in his classes anyway.

If our literacy is ranked 6th I shudder to think how people in countries ranked below us are (edit: in terms of literacy), lol :/

I don't think it's necessary to have a specific class devoted to it. That's something that should be acquired throughout school. I don't think a class devoted to it will suddenly improve our education system.

The typical college liberal arts curriculum could be done in high school.

IT bubble is over, you can't compete with Indians willing to work for $10 below minimum wage.
