And to think this all got started because the borders were drawn by the old colonial powers to create infighting so they could come back in and rule the place... and ironically, they want no part in it now. :/

I'd love for the borders in all the recently decolonized areas to be redrawn in a world conference. Probably not going to happen though, which is going to fucking suck for a very long time.

How could it have turned out any different?  Saddam Hussein was the biggest countermeasure to Iran in the region, with him gone and his power-base dissolved there was nothing stopping Iran from getting it's sycophants in power there.

I don't particularly care if it is. We need to confront Iran and this gives us the opportunity to do so.

Mm... if it ever got out that it was a false flag operation in the middle of the conflict (whatever form it takes), then domestic support for it would rapidly, which would then limit our long-term ability to act. Hell, even if it got out after things resolved (as much as they could, anyway), then it would still have repercussions-- for example, Loose Change used the Bay of Pigs incident as justification for their theory that 9/11 was an inside job (or at least that's what it seemed like was going to happen for as long as I could stand the movie). This would limit our ability to confront other foreign problems; even if the next threat is real, people will whine about how "it's all a lie, man!"

Considering that Iran opened diplomatic talks with us after the incident was publicized though, I'm inclined to say that the plot was probably not fake. :P Edit: And I also think we need to confront Iran as soon as possible.

why into Libya? everyone knows no boots on ground there... thats why all the republicans are on T.V saying how France / Britain did a good job there.. not wanting to give any credit to Obama for not sending troops but still doing a good part.
