I remember celebrating with a house full of people that someone was finally taking on the WTO instead of protesting in front of it like pansies.

Never forget.

p.s. junior in college when it happened.

Really--you need to take a break. This bitter schtick is getting old.

I remember the 7th graders got to watch the news all day while us 4th graders had no freaking idea what was going on.  Seriously nobody would tell us a thing.

I know! :( The teachers only told us that it was the social studies teacher's birthday, which was "why" we were having the day off.

There was a rumor circling around afterwards that the high schoolers were all watching it on TV while using the exercise machines.

It's not like we even comprehended what was happening. I mean I understood a building fell and we were attacked, but I didn't understand why a thousand miles away people dieing was relevant to me.

I got the relevance, but I didn't cry. I felt really bad for all the people that were directly affected, but I didn't grasp the entire horror of the situation until years down the line.

I still don't really grasp it. I'm sure we have caused more harm than good securing dictators to keep oil flowing than what was caused on 9/11

...let's see if I can help you grasp it a little better .

Over 200 people jumped to their certain deaths rather than suffer the horror of being burned alive but before the media decided to exhibit a little respect we got to watch them jumping and 343 NYC firefighters died because they chose to walk toward the danger instead of run away from it .

You minimize the horror and dishonor the sacrifice of these brave men and women when you try to compare this national tragedy to any other event no matter the cost . By your reasoning we need not concern ourselves with any other disaster since so many people died of the black plague .

I think he's just saying that the "horror" seems so horrible because it happened to us. Sure, we hear about genocide in Africa and the Middle East very day, oh well. Wait, some AMERICANS died? THE HORROR!

I was in upstate New York in my 10th grade global history class at the time, but I didn't hear anything until lunch time when some girl said something like "It's not real, it's just a recruiting thing for the Air Force" and slowly but surely I started hearing more. Our school's administration didn't tell us anything was going on. We were getting whispers from other students and a select few teachers.

Our marching band was scheduled to go to NYC in October, and that was (understandably) canceled.
