An authorization for the use of force is not a declaration of war by the UN. It just makes peacekeeping operations legal. If we were actually at war, there would be pretty far reaching consequences--not the least of which is that all of our mutual defense pacts would kick in and about half the world would be required by law to enter the war on our side or break a treaty with the United States.

The article is incorrect. It is very easy to verify that war has not been declared, since a declaration of war requires an act of congress and no such act has even been proposed.

Nothing in your article says that war has been declared, other than some random marine saying it feels like war has been declared.

Well first off, I am right. You can view the roll call votes in the current senate session there. None of them are a declaration of war against anything. As to whether the amassing of ships is or isn't a pissing contest, I can't say. We do deploy fleets to situations like this as a threat a lot. We usually do not have to actually use our military since it's not like he's going to be able to find any mercenaries willing to fight us.

The US Congress didn't declare war, nor authorize the use of force.
