What about the thousands of movies that have dates mentioned in them where nothing happens? Or the hundreds of disaster movies that don't have anything that is coincidentally similar to something that happens?

there is that one hollywood movie which secretly portrays western dominant culture as superior, drains the audience its activity and claims that nature of man is known; something solid and unquestionable.

oh wait.

The date was August 10, in the year 2010...

The far-east island nation had held fast to its neutrality... Rights to Japan's underground resources became a hotly disputed issue, straining the already deep-rooted diplomatic tensions between the two sides...

Japan became a dominion of the empire. It was stripped of its freedom, its rights, and even its name...

Area 11. That number became the new name of the defeated nation of Japan...

...Does that sound familiar at all? :D

Seriously though, due to the sheer number of dates used in media, it makes sense that some of them would actually fall on dates that something big happened on.

Also, people can predict events without someone telling them to. It's likely that someone predicted the events in the Gulf based on how much oil business is down here.

Ya, it's like how torm1 thinks there's guna be end-times, and i think there won't be. One of us will be right. And glorious, and whoever is right will shove it in torm1's face, assuming he doesn't drink the punch.

In 20 years Torm1 will still be saying that the end times are right around the corner.

his plan is to eventually annoy everyone on the internet by spamming doomsday theories enough that people will want to end it themselves, resulting in suicide of global proportions

Aw, I hope Torm1 doesn't drink the punch. :( He doesn't seem to be maliciously doing this, so why shove it in his face? It might just encourage him to preach more, anyways.

Christianity's been saying that for about 1,980 years, so I wouldn't be surprised.

...And did nobody get the reference? Or was it kinda dumb to respond to?

Code Geass?

But yeah, the idea of "predicting" an oil spill isn't a big deal. First of all, oil spills aren't unheard of, so an oil spill is a realistic disaster for a movie that's about tons of different disasters, and they placed it in the Gulf because that's where the majority of our off-shore drilling actually happens.

Yes indeed! It was the first date-related thing that came to mind, since I rewatched the first episode recently.

As for the rest of the post, exactly! :)
