Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America

Raidmap
http://www.cato.org/raidmap/

Featuring the author Radley Balko, Policy Analyst, Cato Institute, with comments by Norm Stamper, Seattle Police Chief (Ret.) and author of Breaking Rank: A Top Cop's Expose of the Dark Side of Policing.

Over the last 25 years, America has seen a dramatic and unsettling rise in the use of SWAT units for routine police work. The most common use of SWAT teams today is to serve narcotics warrants, usually with forced, unannounced entry into homes. These increasingly frequent raids, 40,000 per year by one estimate, are needlessly subjecting nonviolent drug offenders, bystanders, and wrongly targeted suspects to the terror of having their homes invaded while they're sleeping. In a new Cato Institute white paper, "Overkill: The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America," policy analyst Radley Balko looks at this disturbing trend in police work and analyzes the drug war incentives that have inspired it - The Cato Institute

So use land mines, then they won't be quite so eager to run onto your property.

Cops used to be cops.
Now they are only accepting applicants with a lower than average IQ and turning them into enforcement officers.

They are there to collect a paycheck for enforcing the invisible whips (fines, violations, etc etc which are occurring at an increasing rate now) to each of you slaves.

Yes, I just called you a slave.
Prove me wrong.

@bold
that is not true.
they changed that law and now most require you to have a college degree ranging 2-4 years.

but that may be the case in other countries..

I've never heard of either as law or practice.

I have seen a study that showed, most normal officers that actually hold the job for a long times are of average intelligence. Too low and they could not seem to get it down and too high usually couldn't handle the work environment. On the other hand, detective almost always have higher than average intelligence. Off hand going through the many friends I have from High School who became officers, it is right on the money.

Many officers are given a bad rap because of their behavior. The problem is they are subject to the worst that humanity has to offer on a daily basis and never know if they are coming home alive at the end of the day. That is quite a burden for the average person to face daily. I also would put it out there, to remember those things are likely on their mind as they pull you over or stop to confront you on something. Starting with a bad attitude, likely will only heighten their fears and escalate the situation.

Requirements:
Minimum Education: High School or Equivalent
Position Type: Law Enforcement - Police Officer / Deputy Sheriff
Sector: Local / County

The job postings you may find will ask for people with 2 years 2.0 gpa or 2 years in the military but the minimum requirement is still high school equivalent.

The good old USA.

Look at how they promote the job listing by using the salary incentives and vacation/pension benefits. Most other listings will be more modest with their advertising of the salaries, and prefer to negotiate that, but not the cops. They sell that shit like it's cotton candy at the fair.

Take a look at the bold and colored text when it comes to selling this position using the salary and benefits.

SWAT is not paramilitary .

Well it just depends on how broad your definition is. Boyscouts could be considered paramilitary with a broad enough definition.

key word was most.
i did not say it is a requirement to have a degree everywhere, but most departments require you to have a higher education now.
i know this through studying statistics in my criminal justice class.
police work is not what most people think it is.
90% of the time your pretty much doing paper work taking care of town ordinances, and 10% is excitement.
it is not like that show 'Cops' where police are always busting someone and going on shoot outs.
that new show 'swat' is not how swat really works either.
i know cops that are now being sent to school in order to continue being a cop.
