Montana at one time had "reasonable and prudent" speed limits, but recently switched to a numerical 80 mph limit. Some states are only 70 mph max speed. On certain roads with no other traffic, yea 50 over is safe, of course I wouldn't recommend driving recklessly in some junker car.

Traffic laws are designed to accommodate the weakest, dumbest, and slowest among us which is why it sucks so bad.

3 people die per day on Florida roads. why do you hate human life ? do you like sitting in traffic ? generational bad take.

Even on that road, I wouldn't recommend driving above 80+50=130mph...



50 mph over the speed limit sounds like a fair threshold for going from misdemeanor/offense to felony.

I don't think this is a bad law. I guess it's all a matter of opinion. There's a lot of bad drivers out there because the consequences for bad driving is usually minor enough that most people don't care. Make the punishment major and more people will start driving better, so.... good thing, yes?

What's your take on drunk drivers or people who text while driving? I think they should go to jail immediately, too. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Some Canadian context:

25 mph over (40 km/h) on a city/residential road will get you impounded, but not jail. 80 km/h over would be absurd and likely get you jailed on reckless driving

I got a big ticket going 50 km/h over on a big open no cars Manitoba road, which IMO isn't a big deal, cop was nice and said he could have had it impounded
