I mean, you have obvious bots all over social medias promoting propaganda which people believe and repeat. You don't need deep fakes or better technology to do the work they seek to achieve.
Yeah obviously the effect of FaceBook in politics goes to show it does make a difference. But I'll try not to be too rude here: That only works on old people (gen X and over). The technologically illiterate. Or I should say its most effective there, obviously there's people my own age or younger that fall victim to it.
That sort of thing does still bother me. But what bothers me more is something completely feasible in the future like the CIA using AI-generated footage to justify war efforts. After all, if Bush can tell us there's Weapons of Mass Destruction on a whim and enough people believe it. Imagine that sort of propaganda with convincing footage.
