yes, its basically a monarchy dictatorship where the rule can pass only to a male heir in the Kim line.

it was a pseudo-communist state during the cold war in order to get support from the USSR, but when Kim Il Song died and passed rule on to Kim Jong Il the USSR abandoned them because in a communist state you can't pass on the rule to a family member or declare only your family can rule.

Kind of what my understanding was. This is a dumb move if they wanted support just say the other party is “Pro the dictatorship of a lunatic”. Communism isn’t as scary a thought as it used to be.
