I think Destiny is a great debater.
But I'm realizing that the problem in much of political discussion and/or debating these days is not just a lack of a shared reality, but even more important than that is a lack of a shared memory of previous events. American politicians, pundits, and especially voters, are amnesiacs.
After Jan 6th, a huge percentage of people who now vigorously support Trump were against him. They called him unqualified. I'm sure many Trump cultists on this forum today said this sort of stuff at the time. They thought he was finished politically, because how could voters ever support this guy in the future? Those cultists in PaRD made that argument with sincerity, yet now they are the ones supporting him.
But memories fade. Outrage recedes. People start to look at these events much differently because maintaining the correct views about what the event said about Donald Trump in the moment would mean that you have to do something you are uncomfortable with.... perhaps agreeing with Democrats. Maybe even voting for Democrats, or at least abandoning your support of your current tribe. And human beings are much more easily ready to change their negative views of their current tribe than abandon that tribe, and even harder, join another tribe.
Trump's relevance after all of his horrendous behavior isn't primarily an indictment of his supporters, it's more of an indictment of human nature.
At least I've been consistent, eh?
