There is a chance I am older than you, from my visit to America during the mid 90s and early 2000s, SoCal and NorCal, it wasn't as bad as compared to what it is now.
All my mates who went to Standford , UC Berkeley, USC during that period of time and they compared it when they get back to Socal and Norcal region recently , they have told me that it is no longer what it is.
It is pretty much a 100 times worst.
Everyone thinks things were better when they were younger. The truth is, being younger was just better.
California isn't my idea of a good time so I can't speak specifically on it, but I can tell you that we are living in the greatest time in world history, by far, and that America is responsible for that. You can choose to be grateful for this or resentful of a loss you haven't suffered.
If where you're living doesn't make you feel alive and free and beautiful, you can easily move somewhere that does--assuming the place is the problem and not you. Unfortunately that's rarely the case.
