The more product made in US the less this matters.

+1 this I think Vance hit that hard in the debate last night.

"Oh wow all these astronomical costs if we stop importing from other countries!"

If we don't transition back to "Made in America" even if it's net losses for a decade our children will at least not be slaves to entities that exist outside the continental US.

you realize that imposing steep tariffs like he did during COVID only passes that additional cost onto Americans? it works exactly the opposite way you think it does and its a terrible idea

I would rather pay more like I said for the next decade if it means are reliance on other countries imports to the US is lessened or muted. If we continue like you think just having zero tariffs are own businesses/corporations/workforce fall further and further into corporate tyranny. We are already there. Slave wages. Immigrants coming and working for 1/10th what an American with the same skills has.

The whole MAGA movement comes with a lot of financial pain to the average citizen but long term it brings back jobs/business to the US and lessens are reliance on the rest of the world.

We have a huge nation with tons of natural resources and plenty of people "citizens and immigrants" included ready to work.

Your state of California is home to the biggest tech titans on Earth with combined valuations in the TRILLIONS yet look at California????

Meta, Google, and Apple gave the "keys to the cloud" to the Chinese government. The Chinese have been data mining us for decades now and by using our technology giants they've stolen tons of intellectual property and military application technology as well.

I don't think you get the FACT that anyone "weening off anything they are dependent on" "drugs/resources/trades etc." is going to feel a ton of pain because they were conned into thinking things will stay cheap forever. Because we've been going down this road since Bill Clinton opened up our country with NAFTA every American can agree "they can't afford goods" but having China and other countries exporting to us in the volumes gives them leverage over us in trades.

Do you tell a drug addict that he'll be cured in one day or do you tell them it's going to be a long hard road but it's the only option you have. America is a drug addict of consumerism and the only way to wean off is the "hard way".

Do you have a solution that lessens are dependince on foriegn imports while simultaneously building up American business so they can compete again?

1. This will never happen.
2. No they didn't
3. This is true.
4. Before NAFTA, US is already sending jobs overseas to i.e Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, Japan , South Korea etc etc
5. There is no solution unless your government start controlling the capitalistic nature of their donors, lobbies and their corporate giants.

They 100% gave China access to the cloud. In order for them to operate as a US entity within China that was part of the deal. Of course everyone wants to deny it but that’s mainly because they use an I-Phone made in China that’s “spying on them” and at bare minimum dating mining all they were given access too.

They have the same tools are CIA uses to infiltrate software/hardware and they are very good at it. Stealing billions in intellectual property with no repercussions

You guys are saying this will never work because of how far gone the whole situation is but you have to turn back and face the music at some point.

The average American living high off the hog for 100 years at the expense of the rest of the world is coming home too roost. This is karma manifest. We used American power to push everyone else down while we back fabulously rich. These other countries are simply working to make the game more fair and by extension nothing in America will EVER be cheap again. Forget inflation we live on a planet with finite resources but we’re sold “infinite growth”. That can’t happen it’s not statistically possible.

Americans need to realize the rest of the world has been struggling all along and we as a country have only begun to struggle.

Your taxes will go up. Gas will go up. Food will go up. It will all go up regardless of what bullshit they are telling everyone.

Americans are scared as fuck that they will soon have to be living a harder life. It was easy street and now it’s about to be harder.

My whole thing is shut down the boarder entirely and start civil projects to rebuild “America”. No more sending hundreds of billions to warring nations that can never pay us back for our military presence and heavy lifting.

That being said the people here now in the US if they were told we’re taking the hard road for a better long term outcome would cry foul because all their cheap goods made in slave factories overseas.

Basically no American confronted with losing 1st world status can contemplate such an existence but it’s coming. The rest of the world lives like that and pretty soon we will too.

That’s why to me it’s important no matter the pain/loss to get off our dependence on foreign imports.

Our pills are all made in China? That’s not good

We have gigantic oil reserves in Alaska and Texas but we’re still in the ME trying to steal their oil.

We have a giant arable farm country that can and has supplies the US with food. No more imports of guacamole and chocolate omg
How will we ever supply without all the useless junk we get from
Other countries that we could easily make here?

your argument doesnt make any sense. you want to pay higher prices? Trump himself said it will lower prices (which isnt true), just like he did in 2020
are you ready to pay 30% more for gas? if you are youre crazier than I thought

Trump also wants to cut taxes which is even MORE inflationary than high tariffs on imports

youre also mistaken to blame this issue on Clinton when it was in fact Reagan's policies that started the destruction of the middle class by union-busting , deregulating a HUGE amount of industries and by forcing manufacturing overseas

he only way to combat our dependence on imports is to invest in our own production and manufacturing stateside. its a super easy solution - tariffs dont work and only hurt Americans

Took a bit to get there, but half way through you did land that plane. (spot on friend)

Congrats on articulating a solid statement of we better start looking out for number 1 rather then acting like we're the lifeboat of the world. (a lot of my own words lol)

You get it however. Hard times to come because of weak people. Many of my fellow generation bought the "go to school, get job, it'll all work out" because in the 80s/90s you could day labor at 15/25/hr supporting a family of 5 while still getting a vacation. Now many people can't even see far enough ahead to dream of buying their home.

The fact is you cannot go blindly into this and ought to be paying attention.

A recession is the transfer of wealth from those who are unprepared to those who have been preparing. (sidenote: get staring at finance, we're staring down the barrel of a 1929 market without an enormous financial shift - I'm left with digital assets to try to fix what has been. That's if we're lucky, otherwise Ray Dalio has studied world reserve currencies and where we're at final step before the reset is WAR to identify who will hold the GRC)

Boarder #1, we must get our own workers off life support and living again before we can consider being such bleeding hearts for the world.

Hurricane and NC ought to wake everyone up. We sent 17B+ to foreigners and we have folks dying stateside, tragic.

Out of time and I realize this may be not exactly pertinent to the strike. That said, stay safe everyone
