CBS promised they would not fact check the candidates. The question was about illegal aliens, and CBS tried to 'fact check' Vance by claiming that illegal aliens and asylum seekers aren't the same thing since they have an official status. Vance responded to explain precisely how the system works, that anyone can enter the country illegally and then apply for asylum and therefore be given a technical status even though they are by definition illegal aliens, and CBS cut his mic. Absolute fuckery, cutting a mic when called out on their perfidy
