most people dont realize that hmong people are basically US vietnam war veterans. they were on the ground reconnaissance that provided the US with intel against the vietkong communists. without them many thousand more soldiers would have likely died by walking into traps. after the war they were refugees constantly running from the vietkong before the CIA finally got the US to honor their promises to evacuate them and resettle them here. they keep too small of panfish, but otherwise they're caused almost zero issues for such a large migration.
Hmongs and Somalis had a very different immigration path. Most Hmong first generation like you said were Vietnam War relics, and then later refugees displaced by the war brought from Laos and Thailand. Generally speaking they integrated well and are productive members of society.
Somalis immigrated in a large wave using "family reunification" visas that were simply fraudulent due to the federal government having no vetting mechanism. Each family would bring another unrelated family by claiming a relation, and this would repeat as they brought in entire communities. When the Obama administration finally did retroactive DNA testing they found something like 90% of family reunification visa recipients had been fraudulent, so in effect, illegal aliens. The classic example I've given of this is Ilhan Abdullahi Nur Said Elmi who was renamed Ilhan Omar to pretend to be a member of the Omar family- as soon as they immigrated, the 'real' Omars went to Virginia, while Ilhan and her dad went to Minnesota. And overall the Somali community has
not integrated as well. A few have, most haven't, most live in enclaves, some don't, almost all still wear headscarves. Children are miles behind on education and english. They've got much higher rates of crime and in particular fraud, basically just tearing through any social benefits and wrecking the whole covid relief system. Something like if you brought in a large population of Gypsies, except they were much more enterprising and organized to conducting largescale fraudulent empires to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.
