This going to make the summer of 2020 look like Woodstock 69, nation going to descend into madness
My takeaway from the escalating political stakes and violence has been that as you ratchet up the stakes and tear down the barriers of civility, no matter how hard you try to keep yourself in bounds on the pretense of legitimacy and lawfulness, you've created the risk that someone you can't control steps over the line. My debate for the past few years has been whether democrats and republicans could back off from the ledge of the abyss before we topple over. Could cooler heads restore civility, or would we breach into chaos
I don't know. I know we would be plunged full in if Trump dies, I can't imagine our democracy surviving this in the near term, though it could recover in a few years, it could be a real schism point. If Trump just got wounded, maybe this could be the kind of incident that shakes people back into fear of the chaos and swings the pendulum back. I pray thats the case
