Only idiots thought Trump was the favorite going into the 2020 election. He had gone through a horrible year full of mistakes and blunders, energy on the Democratic side was really high, their candidate hadn't committed any unforced errors and the polls consistently showed a huge Biden lead which was big enough to withstand a sizable polling error.

The media & democrats went full court press on the issue of Covid. It would have taken a miracle for him to win.

But only idiots believed Donald trump was the reason why the Covid situation was so bad. Forgive me for believing there were more rational people in America vs absolute fucking retards…

So to correct myself, those of us who are not complete retards thought Donald trump was going to win in 2020, due to how unfathomable it was that the majority of voters were dumb enough to fall for the media machine’s bullshit.

He was in a bad spot, but he also committed unforced errors with regard to covid. He should have either trusted his gut and gone full DeSantis: reopen after 3-4 weeks, forcefully oppose those who call for longer or harsher lockdowns and covid measures. Or do the opposite, go "Fauci is the expert, listen to him", then fade into the background. Instead, he dithered and made neither side happy. And failed to provide any comfort, empathy or confidence to an anxious, unsettled nation during a time of real crisis.

Likewise, the Floyd protests were always gonna be bad for him (by supercharing black turnout and rallying center-left suburbanites as well as corporate America behind the wokist cause). But he once again failed to provide leadership or empathy at a time of real crisis. And the things he did say on the issue were inflammatory rather than conciliatory.



Essentially, Trump fucked up in 2020 because the challenges he was faced with that year would have required a POTUS reaction which went against his brand and instincts.

Trump was winning with a gigantic advantage going into the election. It was the same basic calculus as ever, an incumbent with a roaring economy. The voters looked on his economics with something like a 30 point advantage in polling. Everything else was irrelevant, he was cruising to an easy victory until his ass got blind tackled by covid.

People vote on their satisfaction with the direction the country is going on a superficial, immediate level. The day of the election and at most a few weeks prior. Whether its raining on polling day has more consequence than political slapfights like Eldergate taking place a season prior. Peope don't even vote on who they think is handling a crisis well, they vote on if its been handled. Trump could have done everything right with Covid and it wouldn't matter. If covid had struck in 2021 he'd be president right now.

Seems Trump killed around 180 000 americans. Strange thing is that it was mostly republicans.
