Actually you raise an interesting point. The first and most important aspect of a "state" is a monopoly on violence.

There is no Palestinian entity besides Hamas that can claim to have a monopoly on violence. Ergo, no state.

Isn't Saudi Arabia building a linear city in the desert? Surely they could build a regular city for Palestinians?

Well yeah. Any of the large Arabic countries could give them a hunk of land.
But I don't think that's a part of the Middle East's philosophy.

It's OK for "them" to move into other people's countries and "set up shop", but they don't allow that in their own country. LOL
