Hasn't there been umpteen reviews through the years that indicated it really was not doing anything?

I think its good to acknowledge though if something is not working. That's at minimum a first step.

Yea ain't that funny it's really pathetic because most Chicagoans know politicians are total scum and they walk around with 10 security detail and Chicago PD doing laps around their personal homes. All while telling you you don't need a gun to protect yourself and the city is safer then ever, "Just look at these statistics we skewed and you know aren't true see see it's all good!".



They've already cozied up with the local ethnic gangs so their crime spree is only beginning.



Honestly unless you are from the Midwest or know the city you could walk two blocks in the wrong direction and your already in a bad spot and "spotted" by goons who just called the neighborhood goons to come scuff you up.

There is nowhere in Chicago where you are safe and I never go down there(I'm from the suburbs) unless it's for sports/concert/beach. It's not safe to be out after dark 24/7 365 if you don't believe it go walk around and find out lol.

The shot spotter was useful because it had video/audio recording and that's how they've busted smaller gangs and gotten the jump on the criminals that prowl the streets 24/7 by taking it away entirely you just open up a gap for more crime to be committed and with less Chicago police officers then ever and new laws that give people like this "outta jail for free" cards on top of a massive migrant influx that has gang members immersed amongst actual asylum seekers.

Makes me really sad that the city I grew up in is now a trash can because politicians pimped our city like a whore.

Depends on how you define "working". Did the detection systems locate where shots were fired and often get video captures of the scene? Yes. So in the real sense of did it function as advertised? Yes absolutely.

The fault wasn't the system, it was enforcement. If a squad of police wander into gang neighborhoods to perform arrests and it turns into a shootout, who gets blamed for wounded and killed bystandards?

Ever since Michael Brown, police have been forced to deal with all optics blaming them for all negative results. At this point, isn't it easier to just say, "Gangs can keep the peace in their own neighborhoods. If somebody gets shot, oh well."

I think you guys are also downplaying the main reason for shotspotter getting backlash- the transparency
Its not about how police will be called to black neighborhoods or dumb equity arguments or enforcement

its about the fact that public crime trackers would publish stories based on shotspotter and a lot of average voters who aren't directly exposed to the warzone got to see it for what it really is
chicago politicians want to hide their crime problem and cook the books and manipulate the stats to pretend both that its a smaller problem than it is and that they're somehow fixing it
doesn't work if shotspotter's publicly accessible data lets people have twitter accounts like this;
